Situated between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, Dominica is nicknamed ‘The Nature Island’ because of its volcanic peaks, lush rainforest and huge thermal lake. A large number of tours and activities are available on the island, such as jeep safaris, whale and dolphin watching, and river tubing. Most excursions can be arranged from the capital of Roseau, but you’ll find the best snorkelling spots at Champagne on the south coast. Dominica’s hiking trails are a great way to take in the island’s stellar sights, with some of the best scenic strolls passing waterfalls, historic forts and the famous Boiling Lake. If you’re up for a challenge, the Waitukubuli National Trail is the longest hiking route in the entire Caribbean region, running from one side of the island to the other. You’ll find plenty of accommodation types on the island, including luxury hotels, guest houses, apartments and cottages.
